The Targe was the shield of the Scottish Highlanders. The shield first came into use during the 13th century. For four centuries the Targe remained the primary defense of the Scots. The simple circular design and light weight allowed the shield to be used simultaneously with a sword. A boss and spike allowed the shield to be used offensively. After the defeat of the Jacobites at Culloden the Targe, swords and kilts were all banned in Scotland.

  • The shield has been constructed from wood with a synthetic leather cover.
  • The traditional Celtic pattern has been added to the front of the shield with bronze fittings.
  • A steel boss with a spike can be screwed into the front of the shield.
  • The boss features an intricate design of vines.
  • An adjustable arm strap and wooden handle allows the shield to be worn.
