Scutum is the Latin word for shield. However, this word is now associated with the shields used by the Roman Legionaries. The shield originally began as a round shield but eventually turned to the more rectangular design during the imperial period. The shields were typically constructed of strips of wood making the shield strong but still light in weight. The shield could be used offensively especially the boss (metal hand guard), this would often times be used to strike opponents since the metal was very dense. The Scutum was a crucial piece of the Roman armies battle tactics.

This is a Fully Functional Roman Soldier Scutum for SCA or LARP.

Features

-The Shield has been constructed from 18 Gauge Mild Steel with hand painted Roman markings in red and gold.
-The center Boss of the shield is polished Solid Steel which is welded on by six bolts. It's very strong and sturdy. Many low price similiar items on the market are made of soft steels and the boss can be dented easily.
-The handle of the Scutum is metal, secured by a thick steel band.
