Chris Zhou has become of the of leading sword smiths in the world. Born in Longquan, the legendary city of sword makers for the last 2,500 years, Zhou learned the art of sword forging from his father. Renowned for his ability Zhou has created swords for some of China's top officials including Wu Lan Fu (the former vice president), and Xi Zhongxun (the Deputy Prime Minister). Currently Zhou is the curator of the Longquan Zheng Wu Sword Forging Institute and for the Longquan Sword Museum.

In 2005 Chris Zhou won the Masters of Fire Contemporary Sword Smiths Competition. Top blade smiths from around the world entered this competition, but it was Chris Zhou's Han Wu sword that won.

This is the Chris Zhou Hand Forged Carbon Steel Suzume No Sakura Katana Sword. The blade is a beautiful, hand forged honsanmai shinogi-zukuri with an aesthetic hamon. The saya has been lacquered a deep piano black to add an air of dignity. The sageo is black cotton. The tsuba is brass alloy with an ornate cherry tree and sparrow design and matching fushigashira and menuki. The ito is cotton. the samegawa is genuine rayskin. This is truly a beautiful sword and is balanced to be a practice or medium cutting blade.

Features

Blade: The blade of the sword has been authentically constructed using the forge folding method and honsanmai lamination. This method involves using a high carbon steel core sandwiched between two medium carbon steel cheeks. The hard steel in the core ensures a hard cutting edge while the medium steel cheeks allow the sword to be impact resistant. To further reinforce the blade a soft carbon steel has been added to the mune.
The blade features a bo hi, full tang construction, and comes very sharp.
This sword is fully functional.
Saya: The Saya features a glossy, deep piano black lacquered finish. The Koiguchi is bull horn. The Sageo is black chemical fiber.
Tsuka: The Tsuba is brass alloy with its namesake design; a sparrow sitting in a blossoming cherry tree.The Tsuka features a single smoked bamboo Mekugi. The Ito is black cotton fiber. The Samegawa is authentic white ray skin. The Fushigashira and menuki are brass alloy and feature the same suzume no sakura theme.
