Description Item Specs   The Great Sword made its first appearance during the 16th century. The sword was used for two purposes on the battle field. The first use was to break apart enemy pike formations. The sword would be swung to break the heads off the pikes, then used on the vulnerable pike men to break their heads. The second use for the Great Sword was as a defense against mounted charges. The long length of the blade allowed the sword to take out the legs of incoming horses. Overall Length: 53.5 " Blade: Unsharpened Blade Length: 40.25 " Blade Material: 440 Stainless Steel Handle Length: 12.5 " Handle Material: 440 Stainless Steel Condition: Brand New Accessories: Wooden Plaque Features Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed from 440 Stainless Steel with a ridge down the center and a ricasso at the base of the blade. The blade comes unsharpened. Guard: The guard is a stylized cross arm design with spikes on each side. The Quillon is a long, aggressive steel construction. Handle: The handle is steel with a ribbed design to maximize grip. The pommel of the sword is a vicious steel spike. Plaque: The Plaque is wooden and easily mounted.
