Description Item Specs

This is the legendary Takemoto Hand Forged Tamahagane Katana. The sword is one of a kind and made from authentic Tamahagane. This sword is an absolute modern masterpiece.
Features
  • Blade: This sword has been constructed from Satetsu to create a blade forged from Tamahagane. This process begins with black iron rich sand (Satetsu) being smelted in a Tartara to make molten iron. Charcoal is then added to the iron to create extremely pure steel, or Tamahagane. This is the most traditional way to create a Japanese sword and requires the skills of a master smith.
  • The Shinogi of the blade has an HRC of 60 degrees. The Yakiba has an HRC of 57 degrees. This difference in hardness has been achieved by creating a Hamon on the edge of the blade.
  • The Hamon is the process of heating the sword with a clay cover over the entire blade, except for the cutting edge. The sword is then quenched in pure spring water. Since the cutting edge of the blade cools much faster than the rest of the blade the cutting edge is much harder than the rest of the blade. The result of this treatment is a blade that is both flexible while simultaneously retaining its hard cutting edge. Unlike most other swords on the market this Hamon travels all the way up to the Kissaki of the blade and wraps around the top of the point. The curve of the blade is a also a result of the clay treatment.
  • The kissake of the blade is an O-Kissake with a Kaeri-fukashi (wrap around) Hamon along the end of the blade. The ridge line is a flat design with a Shinogi-ji (narrow ridge) area.
  • The Hamon is very bright with light milky Nioi. The Nie crystals are easily seen and create an interesting hataraki in the Hamon. The Hamon is a unique Gyuku Chogi design only seen on this single sword.
  • The blade has a low Mune, deep curve, and a Masame-Hada straight grain design.
  • After the forging of the blade the sword was professionally polished with multiple grade stones. This process alone requires an expert polisher and costs hundreds of dollars.
  • The sword comes full tang and razor sharp with a thin edge finish.
  • Saya: The Saya has been constructed from hard wood with a deep black lacquer finish. A black cotton Sage-O has been wrapped around a bright copper Kurigata. The Koiguchi has been constructed from bull horn.
  • Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece copper construction. A polished copper Seppa secures the Tsuba. The Tsuba is a cut our iron design with branches of bamboo. Another polished copper Seppa secures the Tsuka.
  • Tsuka: The Tsuka core is hard wood with a Ray Skin Same wrap. A black cotton Ito has been wrapped over the Same. A black iron Menuki in the likeness of a bamboo branch is found on each side of the Tsuka. A single bamboo Mekugi secures the tang of the sword into the Tsuka. The Kashira is black iron with bamboo branches in relief.
